Silence: practices, experiences and rituals

The aim of the seminar Silence – practices, experiences and rituals is listening silence as cultural practice, the method of collecting sounding knowledge and existential/borderline experience. We want to propose to investigate different kinds of activities bound with the silence (in its extensive meaning), to try to explore how it (silence) is experienced, described and practiced. In this year's seminar we are interested in silence in its processual and performative dimension, and want to propose to make a shift in research from “sound studies” to “listening studies”, from the “object” to “praxis”, to explore how various practices related to silence affect human beings and their relationship with the world/environment.

We are especially interested in working papers which explore (but not only):

  1. Listening to silence – practices and methods.
  2. Silence as cognitive condition.
  3. Silence and listening as a thinking method.
  4. Practicing of silence in various cultural and social contexts.
  5. Politics of silence and listening (political language, biopolitics, modes of (un)presence etc.).
  6. Subjectivity and silence.
  7. Silence as/in rituals.

All of the seminar meetings will be providing online on Webex. If You would like to join us please click on this link and register: https://tiny.pl/cl128.

In general the meetings are starting at 5.30 p.m. (CET), but beacause our keynote speakers live in very different time zones, we would like to adjust a starting time to their wishes and needs. You may check this information on our website or You will receive it automatically at Your email, if You will register here https://tiny.pl/cl128.
